Eric + Lily | Traverse City Wedding

It wasn’t supposed to rain. And it definitely wasn’t supposed to downpour like it did. And maybe going down to the beach with a metal sword in the middle of a thunderstorm wasn’t the wisest idea, but it was worth it.

It wasn’t supposed to rain. And it definitely wasn’t supposed to downpour like it did. And maybe going down to the beach with a metal sword in the middle of a thunderstorm wasn’t the wisest idea, but it was worth it.

When we pushed our way through the heavy wooden doors of the church after the ceremony, the air felt different than it had that morning. The breeze was picking up, the sky was quickly darkening, and it smelled like rain. A quick check of the radar let us know that a sudden massive thunderstorm was making its way toward us, and fast too. So when we checked with Eric and Lily how they were feeling about our original plans for portraits out at the Old Mission lighthouse, we would have fully understand if they were no longer interested. But, these two have the most adventurous hearts and were absolutely down for photos in the rain.

So off we drove, our windshield wipers going furiously, and thunder that shook the road, until we made our way to the lighthouse parking lot. From there it was a mad dash under our tiny umbrellas and by the time we were done, we were all soaked to the bone. But nothing could wipe the smile from Eric and Lily’s faces. They were reveling in that just married feeling!!

And then, just as quickly, as soon as we arrived to their reception, the sun began to peek back out for a festive evening of tiramisu, caricatures, and dancing.

Looking back, I remember talking to Lily on the phone during our discovery call. When I asked her about her wedding vision, she shared that for the most part, her and Eric were pretty untraditional and it was important that their wedding felt like them. I think it’s pretty safe to say that was a success: their wedding day was so uniquely Eric and Lily and that made it all the more special to witness and capture.

Daniel + Kylie | Old Mission Peninsula

We spent just a few hours with Daniel and Kylie on their wedding day, but even within that short span time it was evident the amount of thought and intention they had put into every detail. Full of color, joy, and thoughtfulness

We spent just a few hours with Daniel and Kylie on their wedding day, but even within that short span time it was evident the amount of thought and intention they had put into every detail. The sun was shining on this gorgeous August day at a family member’s property when they got married. Instead of traditional boutonnieres, Daniel and his groomsmen wore fishing flies to honor his late brother, an avid fly fisherman. Their entire wedding ceremony honored Kylie’s heritage and their precious pup even joined in the fun for their vows, finding a cozy spot to nestle in at the bottom of Kylie’s dress. Though the time we spend with them on their wedding day was short, it was oh so very sweet—full of color, joy, and thoughtfulness; it was a special one to witness and document. Congratulations, D+K!

Dane + Erin | Intimate Traverse City Wedding

Dane and Erin’s wedding was not a performance, but an honest and intentional celebration of everything and everyone they loved. We’re so honored when we are invited into weddings like theirs—so full of life and history. Every moment was thought out and intentional and every guest was someone who played a part in their story in some way or another. Congratulations to these two!!

From a wedding dress and veil that had been so lovingly passed down to her, to getting married in her grandparent’s backyard with one of their closest friends officiating: Dane and Erin’s wedding was not a performance, but an honest and intentional celebration of everything and everyone they loved.

The emotions were palpable as Erin got ready with her girls; nerves and butterflies and giddy excitement in the air as she whisked away her wedding dress to her grandparents house where she would finish getting dressed. It was here that we found Dane outside, greeting their guests with his characteristic smile and relaxed demeanor.

Nestled underneath a great willow in the backyard, chairs adorned the back patio facing the arbor where Dane and Erin said their vows. They practically flew back down the aisle as husband and wife, grinning ear to ear with so much joy and happiness.

Cocktail hour progressed in the front yard with everyone mingling while the backyard was being transformed into an intimate and beautiful reception scene. Tables lined the patio when everyone began to take their seat for toasts, dinner, dancing, ice cream, and quality conversation.

We’re so honored when we are invited into weddings like Dane and Erin’s, so full of life and history. Every moment was thought out and intentional and every guest was someone who played a part in their story in some way or another. Congratulations to these two!!

Luke and Alayna | Traverse City Wedding

The energy on the dance floor was electric—people were doing backflips (!!!) and pulling out all kinds of crazy moves. But in the midst of it all we were struck by the community, friends supporting one another, holding each other up (literally), laughing, hugging, and dancing nonstop til the end of the night.

At the end of the night everyone came together—bridal party, parents, cousins, friends—to dance with Luke and Alayna for one last song before sending them off.

On the way to the ceremony I asked Alayna what she was looking forward to most. She responded with two things:

1. Marrying Luke of course

2. Open dancing at the reception

Knowing this, I had so much anticipation going into the reception. And let me just say, this dance floor was one for the books: Luke and Alayna’s guests showed up big time.

Leo + Maya Wedding | Traverse City

Leo and Maya’s wedding day was so full of joy, color, and vibrancy. These two were intentional about every detail of their day, from a private ‘first touch’ in front of the church, to carving out space after the ceremony to slow down for portraits just the two of them beside the stained glass windows. We left with the fullest of hearts, so thankful to be invited into such special occasions such as these.

These two were intentional about every detail of their day, from a private ‘first touch’ in front of the church, to carving out space after the ceremony to slow down for portraits just the two of them beside the stained glass windows. Colorful candles burned slowly during the night through emotional toasts, shared laughter, and a dance floor that was never not packed. Leo and Maya’s people sure do know how to celebrate them. As the night ended and Maya sent me home with some extra floral centerpieces, we left with the fullest of hearts, so thankful to be invited into such special occasions such as these.
